Southdown is your home and we promise you will not be constrained by lots of rules. You have the freedom to explore the home and the grounds whenever you choose. We are here to meet your needs and where practical to help you keep to your normal routine.

Will I need to change my Doctor?

Providing your present doctor is happy to remain in charge of your treatment when you move into Southdown, then you may keep the same doctor.
Many residents however, find it more convenient to change to one of the group practice serving Southdown, as the G.P visits us weekly and therefore any problems can be quickly addressed -please let Debbie know and she will help you organise this.
If you or your relatives would like to see the Doctor, please inform Debbie or one of her nurses and they will arrange it for you.
If you are already taking regular medication, the nursing staff will take care of any renewals to your prescription.
Regular visits to the home are also made by the Chiropodist, Aromatherapist, Optician and Hairdresser.

What can I bring with me?

We encourage all our residents to bring as many small personal belongings as they would like. This will help you feel at home and settle in. At Southdown we are unfortunately unable to take responsibility for jewellery, money or electrical appliances. We would suggest that separate insurance cover is obtained by yourself to cover these items.
If you prefer to have your own furniture, then that is perfectly acceptable as long as we know beforehand. All rooms have a TV.
Should you require a telephone installing in your room, this can be arranged. However, we do stress that this is entirely the responsibility of the resident and/or relatives. We therefore, respectfully request that you make your own arrangements with British Telecom who, judging by past experience are fairly co-operative in installing a telephone quite quickly. If you require one, you will be provided with a key to your room.
_______________

Does Southdown provide social activities?

The staff endeavour to offer as much stimulation as possible we try to provide outside entertainers, organised outings and visits to parks etc. especially in the summer months.
We welcome children and animals to visit the home. It is important that Southdown is lively, social and a happy home to live in. There is no restriction on visiting times.
We appreciate your support in fund raising for trips etc. by taking part in raffles and fêtes etc.
_______________

What happens if I become unhappy or I have a problem?

Debbie will discus this with you at the time as all cases are different. All issues will be dealt with within 28 days. (N.B. please leave contact numbers to help us achieve this). If we are unable to solve the problem, or should you prefer, you may contact the regulator:

Commission for Social care Inspection
Chippenham Office
Suite C
Avonbridge House
Bath Road
Chippenham SN15 2BB
Tel( 01249) 454550
They will look at any problems raised with them and if needed discuss it with ourselves and take any action required.
There will be “open evenings” from time to time when Debbie will be available to discuss any problems and suggestions you may have. However, you are welcome to come in and speak with someone at any time.
